Wanchai ferry The wanchai district is one of Hong Kong's busiest commercial areas. People from all parts of
Hong Kong society pass through the district - business people, laborers, shoppers - on their way
to work, play or to the pier from which they can take the Wanchai Ferry to Kowloon, across Victoria
Harbour. It's in this bustling part of the city that our story begins.
The Dumpling Queen In 1977, Chong Kin Wo left her native Shandong Province in east central China for a new life in the bustling city of Hong Kong. Work was scarce in Hong Kong for a single mother with two young daughters, so Madame Chong went to work for herself. She began making dumplings from an old family recipe. Every night she'd prepare her dumplings. And every morning, she's push her handcart to the ferry pier to sell them.
The ranks of her fans grew. But Madam Chong strived to do better. She listened carefully to her customers, revising her recipes over time and perfecting them in every detail.
Word soon spread across the city and her dumplings became the talk of the town. The
Hong Kong press even named Madame Chong the city's "Dumpling Queen."
An International Brand In 1985, Madame Chong established the Wanchai Ferry™ Peking Dumpling Company to make her
creations available across the city and beyond. In time, Wanchai Ferry™ became available not just
in China, but across Asia and in Europe.
